A man from China was left speechless after visiting a government clinic in Malaysia for a bleeding thumb—because the total cost for consultation, dressing, and medication came up to only RM1.
“I thought I’d be charged more”
The man had accidentally cut his thumb with a vegetable slicer.
Despite trying to stop the bleeding, it continued for hours, and he eventually rushed to the nearest government clinic for help.
Expecting a hefty medical bill, he was shocked when the staff treated him promptly, wrapped the wound carefully, handed him medication—and then asked for just RM1.
He later shared the experience on Xiaohongshu, calling it a “warm and touching experience.”

Treated with care even though he’s not a local
He admitted he was nervous at first, but the staff were fast, professional, and attentive.
He was especially amused by how neatly and adorably the nurse wrapped his thumb, saying it made him laugh through the pain.
What impressed him even more was that, despite not being a Malaysian citizen, he was still treated with kindness and efficiency.

“Malaysia’s public healthcare system really isn’t just about money”
In the comment section, he explained that although he is from China, his wife is a Malaysian Chinese citizen, so as her spouse, he is also eligible for public healthcare.
He added that this wasn’t his first visit to a government clinic, and every time he went, he felt “warmth and peace of mind.”
“Even though the fees are low, the staff never cut corners. They give their best and treat everyone equally.”
