When we’re sleeping, we would inevitably breathe in dust or particles that aren’t considered for our health. But what would your reaction be if what you inhaled in was a cockroach?
This was the horrific scenario a man in Haikou, China, found himself in after he was informed that the cause for his bad breath was no thanks to a roach that was inside his throat.

According to Oddity Central, the 58-year-old man was deep in slumber when he woke up to the feeling of something crawling straight into his nose.
To make matters worse, he reportedly felt that ‘thing’ crawl down his throat, causing him to start coughing. But nothing was expelled from his body so he thought nothing of it and went back to sleep.
The next day, the man completely forgot about the incident but was rudely reminded of it again when he noticed his breath smelt particularly bad.
For the next three days, he did everything he could think of to get rid of the bad breath but to no avail. He also began to cough up yellow sputum, which prompted him to head to the hospital.
At the Hainan Hospital, the ENT specialist couldn’t find anything in the man’s upper respiratory tract. However, the man was still very much convinced that something was stuck inside him and was eventually referred to Dr. Lin Ling, respiratory and critical care doctor.
She immediately did a chest CT scan and found something lodged in the posterior basal segment of the right lower lobe and a minimally invasive bronchoscopy was subsequently carried out, where the cause behind the man’s bad breath was finally revealed.
During the procedure, I clearly saw something with wings in the bronchus. The foreign body was wrapped in a lot of phlegm. After sucking out the surrounding phlegm, the foreign body was exposed. It was a cockroach.
“While such cases are rare, we advise those who suspect they have a foreign body stuck in their lower respiratory tract to seek medical attention as soon as possible,” she said as quoted by Seehua News.
As for the man, his throat was washed clean of phlegm, leading to the bad breath disappearing altogether. He was then discharged from the hospital the next day.
