Spoken like a true Malaysian!
Several journalists from China who came to Malaysia to provide media coverage on President Xi Jinping’s recent three-day visit to the country have gone viral in a clip showcasing their Malay proficiency.

And what could be any more Malaysian than tucking into a plate of nasi kandar while speaking Malay, right?

China journalists wow netizens with fluent Malay

In the close to 2-minute long clip uploaded by Husna Liangliang on her TikTok account, it showed her and her colleagues enjoying their meal at a packed nasi kandar restaurant.

The mic was then passed around the group to give each person a chance to share about the dishes they had ordered in Malay.

One of them, who goes by the name of Fadli, joked that he ordered plain water to go with his meal as he wanted to maintain his body shape.

On the other hand, another journalist named Satria said he ordered more dishes for himself so that he could keep his energy levels up throughout the day.

In the in-text caption, Husna wrote everyone in the group speaks fluent Malay and orders Malaysian food.

She also jokingly reminded her colleagues not to dirty their clothes before interviewing prime minister Anwar Ibrahim.

In case you were wondering why all of them had Malay names, it is a common practice among China students who formerly studied in Malaysia.

Netizens impressed

Malaysians were pleasantly surprised by the foreign journalists’ amazing grasp of the language and praised them for it, with some saying their Malay was better than some locals and politicians.
