A man and a woman were caught trying to smuggle 102 used mobile phones into Zhuhai, China, by using a baby stroller to pass through the Gongbei Port border checkpoint undetected.
Customs inspection turns chaotic
The incident occurred at 8.28am on July 1st when the pair entered the passenger inspection hall through the green channel, which is meant for travellers without declared goods.

As customs officers approached them for inspection, the woman suddenly tried to run, leaving the baby behind in the stroller but was quickly intercepted by authorities.

Phones hidden under clothes
The man was found with 48 old mobile phones strapped to his legs.

The woman had 54 phones tied around her waist, abdomen, chest, and legs — all wrapped in plastic film.

This brought the total number of smuggled phones to 102.
Child confirmed to be hers
According to Sing Tao Headline, further checks confirmed that the baby left behind in the stroller was the woman’s biological child.
The man and woman were not married, but had teamed up to smuggle the devices together.

Possible criminal charges
Chinese customs law states that hiding taxable items to bypass inspection is considered smuggling. If the case is serious, offenders can face criminal charges.
Investigations are still ongoing.
