Despite a deadly shooting that claimed two lives just outside Viva Shopping Mall in Cheras early Monday morning (June 17), the mall has resumed operations.
The mall remains in operation despite the shooting incident
The incident occurred around when two men in their 40s were walking toward their parked car near the mall entrance at midnight.
Suddenly, helmeted gunmen ambushed them and opened fire, with witnesses recalling the chaos as shots rang out.

According to Harian Metro, operations inside the mall remained unaffected. Authorities confirmed that the mall’s entrance was swiftly secured following the incident, allowing tenants to resume normal business hours with enhanced security measures in place.
Police assured the public there was no further threat
A police officer at the scene assured the public that the situation was brought under control shortly after the shooting. “The situation outside was secured quickly, and the mall was allowed to resume normal operations,” he said, adding that the swift response helped prevent panic from spreading among the general public and nearby businesses.
In response to the incident, mall management worked closely with security forces to tighten safety protocols for the rest of the day.

Additional security personnel were deployed to monitor entrances, while patrols within the premises were ramped up to reassure shoppers and tenants. Some shops chose to briefly delay their opening hours but resumed operations once the area was cleared by authorities.
No disruptions has taken place ever since
Everything is currently under control, and no further concerning developments have been reported since the shooting. Police have maintained a presence in the area to ensure public safety and reassure visitors.
While authorities did not report any disruption to mall operations, the incident has stirred public concern over safety in typically high-traffic commercial areas.
The incident has also reignited broader conversations about safety in public spaces, particularly in areas often seen as safe and family-friendly.
