A 13-year-old girl who opted to sit inside her father’s car and play with her mobile phone was taken on what was the most frightening ride of her life yesterday (Jan 18).
This comes after the car got stolen by a thief before it was abandoned by the roadside, reported NST.
Car stolen outside school
Shah Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ramsay Embol said the incident took place outside a secondary school at around 7pm.
“Police officers on duty at the district police headquarters control centre received a call about a silver Perodua Viva being stolen while a girl was inside.

“An alert was immediately sent out to all policemen on field duty to locate the vehicle and the girl. The girl and car were later found at the roadside near a restaurant an hour later,” he said.
Ramsay added the girl, though unhurt, was deeply traumitised by the incident.
Wasn’t aware of victim’s presence
Ramsay said prior to the carjacking, the car’s engine was initially switched off but the victim started it up after asking for the key from her father as she had wanted to sit inside.
Not long after, the thief managed to make his way into the car and drove off.

However, he was oblivious to the fact that the girl was inside the car as well and only came to realise it when she screamed.
Thankfully, the thief didn’t resort to violence to keep her quiet but merely told her to shut her mouth.
The car and victim were brought back to the district police headquarters for further investigations, and the car was later examined by the Selangor police headquarters’ forensic team.
An investigation paper has been opened under Section 379A of the Penal Code for vehicle theft and Section 363 of the Penal Code for kidnapping, which carries a jail term of not less than one year and not more than seven years, or a fine.

As for kidnapping a minor from lawful guardianship, it carries a prison term of up to seven years and a fine.
Ramsay called on those with further information to contact investigating officer, Inspector Ahmad Mokhsin Abdul Rahman, at 011-17554394.
