Being a teacher these days isn’t easy, not only do they have to handle moody students, but some also have to deal with overprotective parents who think their kids can do no wrong.
Recently, a thread went viral after a teacher shared how she was summoned by her school’s admin just for tweaking a student’s ear all because the student refused to do his homework.
I got called by the admin because I tweaked a student’s ear.
He didn’t finish the homework I gave two months ago.After I tweaked him, his dad lodged a report. Since then, I’ve just ignored that student,” the teacher wrote.
The screenshot of her message was shared by another teacher, who didn’t reveal full details of the incident but said it reflected what many educators are going through today, reported mStar.
“Students nowadays dare to talk back”
Many netizens especially teachers flooded the comments to share their own experiences, saying it’s becoming harder to discipline students without being “reported”.
One former teacher wrote:
“I used to teach secondary school. Students these days think they’re grown up and dare to talk back. And the issue was just homework! I think they behave like this because they know teachers can’t touch them, and their parents will side with them no matter what.”

Another teacher shared her own story, saying she once got a message from a parent after she reprimanded a child for making a mess in class.
“Yesterday was worse. I scolded a student for playing with glue on the table, he was making slime out of it. That night, his mom texted me, saying my scolding might stress her child out and make him not want to go to school anymore.”
“Teachers can’t even raise their voice now”
Many sympathised with the teachers, saying that modern parenting has gone too soft, making educators afraid to discipline students.
Others called for more respect towards teachers, reminding parents that discipline doesn’t mean abuse, it’s about teaching kids accountability and respect.
