What was meant to be a rare safe space for pet owners has quickly turned into a huge letdown.
A Malaysian pet owner has spoken up after a newly opened pet friendly mall reversed its policy and no longer allows pets indoors, just days after welcoming them under specific conditions.
“We were absolutely devastated”
In a Threads post that quickly caught attention, user thetriosaaa shared how heartbroken she was after learning about the sudden change.
“Super devastated with this. The new pet friendly mall which allowed pets indoors as long as they were in strollers is no longer pet friendly. Our furkids enjoyed their time there and it was a place where we could hang out or date with other pet parents. Can we appeal though?”
In a follow up post, she explained that responsible pet owners had followed all the rules from the start.
Our furry babies stayed safely in strollers and we cleaned up instantly if needed. In strollers, there is zero chance of messes or incidents on the ground. With so many non pet friendly malls out there, why take away this gem for us pet parents?”
She had already made dining plans with her pets
Speaking exclusively to WeirdKaya, thetriosaaa said the announcement left her feeling devastated, sad and angry.
She shared that she had already made plans to return to the mall with her pets and friends.
We even made an appointment today with one of the F&B outlets so we could dine in with our furry kids and friends.”
She added that she had visited the mall just two days earlier and had a very positive experience.
“We were pretty amazed by this new mall and everyone was so welcoming, especially the shop workers.”
Hoping the decision can be reconsidered
When asked about her appeal, thetriosaaa said she hoped the management would reconsider the decision and allow pets again under proper guidelines.
“We are hoping that the mall will let it be pet friendly again so all pet parents have a space to gather and meet up while bringing our furry kids.”
She also urged the mall to provide a petition form or some method for pet owners to voice their concerns.
“One bad example or irresponsible owner should not set the standard for those who are responsible. It is just not fair.”
Another pet owner shared the same disappointment
Another pet owner, who requested to remain anonymous, told WeirdKaya he was equally disappointed by the news.
He shared that the mall was especially convenient because it was close to his home.
“I planned to go last week but could not, so I was planning to go this week. Previously, I had to travel about one hour just to go to a pet friendly mall in Kepong.”
A rare space that pet owners say they need
For many pet owners, pet friendly spaces are still limited, especially in urban areas where pets are often restricted from indoor public places.
While the mall has yet to respond publicly to calls for an appeal, pet owners like thetriosaaa are hoping their voices will be heard.
For now, the question remains one that many are asking.
