A tourist recently had her mind blown — not by the food, the skyscrapers, or the shopping malls in Malaysia — but by the cleanliness of its public transport system.
In a TikTok video that’s gaining traction, travel creator Dana Wang documented her trip to one of the MRT stations in Kuala Lumpur, and let’s just say, she was seriously impressed.
The MRT in Kuala Lumpur is so clean and well maintained! Cannot even compare this to the NYC subway,” she wrote.
The 32-second clip features gleaming escalators, spotless floors, and a complete absence of litter or graffiti — a scene that might surprise even locals who use the system daily.
“This is a station in the capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. It’s so clean you can literally see your reflection on the floor,” she said.
“No trash, no stains, no graffiti, and no homeless people — everything is so well-kept!”
She also highlighted how even the turnstile area was well-lit and aesthetically designed.
One feature she was especially wowed by — the women-only sections.
They even have special zones just for women, both on the platform and inside the train. It’s such a thoughtful touch,” she added.
Many netizens urge the creator not to “expose” Malaysia’s clean MRT, jokingly saying locals want to keep it a secret from foreigners.
A seasoned traveller ranks Malaysia’s MRT as the second best after Tokyo’s, saying it outperforms systems in cities like New York, London, Paris, and Singapore.
Some say it’s unfair to compare because Malaysia’s MRT is still new, unlike New York’s much older subway system.
It’s not every day that public transport gets rave reviews, but Malaysia’s MRT seems to be turning heads — and maybe even setting some international standards.
