A restaurant in Puchong has gained significant online attention for its innovative self-service model, where customers can pack their own food, calculate their total, and choose to pay via QR code or by placing cash into a designated safe box.
What’s even more surprising is the owner’s trust-based policy allowing customers to pay later if they don’t have the exact change.
Entirely self-service
According to a video posted on TikTok by @makantrip, the restaurant operates entirely on a self-service system without any staff assistance.

The footage shows customers selecting rice with a variety of side dishes, packaging their meals themselves, and paying based on the prices listed on the wall.
This restaurant is fully self-service. You pick your food, pack it, and pay on your own,” the video caption explains.

No change? Pay later
The restaurant has a clear sign informing customers that, starting from June 11, 2024, they will no longer provide change.
However, patrons who are short on cash can settle the remaining amount during their next visit.
From June 11, 2024, we will no longer provide change. If you don’t have the exact amount, feel free to pay the difference on your next visit.” The notice reads.
Netizens’ reaction
The restaurant’s unusual model quickly sparked discussions online. Many netizens praised the honesty-based system and the affordable meal prices.
“This restaurant is great for introverted people.”

“Only honest people can eat here.”

“Not suitable for someone like me; I prefer the owner to watch what I take and calculate it. If I have to calculate it myself like this, I’d worry about getting it wrong.”
