With Raya celebrations coming in slightly more than a week from now, Malaysians are gearing up to celebrate the festive occasion by buying new clothes or stocking up on snacks.
For those in Terengganu though, there’s a specific activity they won’t be allowed to do during the final 10 days of the Ramadan month.
Busking not allowed during last 10 Ramadan days
According to Harian Metro, that activity is busking, where it involves individuals or bands performing or playing music at public spaces.
State Local Government, Housing and Health Committee chairman Datuk Wan Sukairi Wan Abdullah said the ban, which came into effect yesterday (Mar 20), will continue until the final day of Ramadan (Mar 30).

He added the move was meant to honor and preserve the sanctity of the last 10 nights of Ramadan.
All business premises operators, moreh event organizers, Ramadan bazaars, and Aidilfitri bazaars are required to comply with the directive to refrain from organising entertainment activities involving buskers or street musicians.
“This ban does not only apply to entertainment activities and performances within the jurisdiction of the Kuala Terengganu City Council (MBKT) but extends across the entire state,” he said.

Wan Sukairi warned that those who were caught flaunting the new directive risk having legal action being taken against them.
Meanwhile, MBKT mayor Datuk Rosli Latif said that his office has already distributed prohibition notices on entertainment activities to all supermarket owners and organisers of moreh events, Ramadan bazaars, and Aidilfitri bazaars.
“In order to ensure compliance with the directive, MBKT enforcement officers will conduct patrols at all supermarkets, moreh activity sites, and Ramadan and Aidilfitri bazaars,” he said.
