It’s common sense that one should not smoke at a petrol station due to the high risk of igniting fuel vapours, leading to potentially catastrophic fires or explosions.
This basic safety rule is widely known and adhered to by the public for obvious reasons. Despite this, there are instances where individuals blatantly disregard such safety norms, prompting concern and criticism from the wider community.
A Malaysian bus driver was badly criticised by netizens when a video showing him smoking while refuelling his bus went viral on social media.
A 44-second clip uploaded on X shows that the incident took place at a petrol station in Muallim, Perak.

Although diesel fuel is not as flammable as gasoline or kerosene, the action of the man in his 40s is still considered against the rules at any petrol station.
However, it could not be determined whether there were any passengers on the bus at the time.
Besides smoking while refilling the diesel, the bus driver was seen randomly throwing away his cigarette.
Netizens Outrage
In the comment section, netizens were bashing the man for his dangerous act.
“This bro must be lacking knowledge in fuel combustion. Diesel doesn’t ignite as easily as Petrol or Kerosene. But this uncle is also wrong, gas stations are no-smoking areas.”

“There’s no use in teaching old people; they’re resistant to criticism. They only learn their lesson after seeing a fire right before their eyes.”

“Most heavy vehicle drivers are foolish and stubborn. Even if we advise them, they either ignore us or pick a fight. I’ve worked at a petrol station before, and these folks are really terrible.”

“Eh, it MUST be reported! Don’t take it lightly, this is a serious matter!”

“This is among the idi*tic species that thrive in Malaysia! Another type is the fool who doesn’t turn off the engine! Waiting for it to explode, I would really clap as hard as I could.”
