‘Bullying & Intimidation!’ – Loke Orders DAP Youth To File Police Reports Nationwide Over Akmal’s Protest Outside Hardware Store

He also called the act disrespectful to Malaysia’s multi-racial society.
The Democratic Action Party (DAP) has strongly condemned a protest led by UMNO Youth Chief Dr Akmal Salleh outside a hardware store in Kepala Batas, Penang.

The incident took place despite police warnings from both the Inspector-General of Police and Penang’s police chief, advising against any form of public gathering at the location.

DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke described the protest as “bullying and criminal intimidation,” noting that it targeted a local business owner who had already apologised for mistakenly hanging the national flag upside down.

Instructed DAPSY to file police report

According to Loke, the protest disrupted the area’s peace, prompting nearby shop owners to shut down earlier due to safety concerns. He stressed that such actions violate public order and challenge the rule of law.

He also called the act disrespectful to Malaysia’s multi-racial society, adding that those responsible must face legal consequences.

Loke has instructed the DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) branches across the country to file police reports against Akmal under several sections of the Penal Code.

These include Section 503 for criminal intimidation, Section 504 for intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace, and Section 505 for statements likely to cause public mischief.

Police reports will also be lodged under the new sections addressing bullying, namely Section 507B of the Penal Code (causing the victim to experience harassment, distress, fear, or anxiety) and Section 507C of the Penal Code (uttering words likely to cause the victim to be harassed, distressed, fearful, or anxious).”

While Loke stressed the importance of displaying the Jalur Gemilang properly as a national duty, he emphasised that threats and public intimidation are not the right ways to address such issues.
