Bukit Bintang Littered After Christmas Eve Celebrations, DBKL Carries Out Cleanup

“Cleanliness is a shared responsibility.”
Photos circulating online have highlighted the state of cleanliness in Bukit Bintang following a festive night, with large amounts of rubbish seen scattered along sidewalks and roads in the city centre.

The images, believed to be taken in the early hours of Christmas Day, show discarded cups, bottles, plastic bags, and other waste littering Jalan Bukit Bintang, an area that typically sees heavy crowds during festive celebrations.

In response, Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) shared photos of cleanup operations carried out in the area, showing workers clearing rubbish and restoring cleanliness in the city centre.

“Cleaning works were carried out in the city centre to ensure the surrounding environment remains clean, orderly, and comfortable for everyone,” DBKL said in its post.

However, the local authority noted that irresponsible littering by certain individuals continues to affect the cleanliness and image of Kuala Lumpur.

“There are still individuals who dispose of rubbish indiscriminately, which negatively impacts the cleanliness and image of the city,” DBKL added.

Public urged to remain responsible during celebrations

While acknowledging that the public was celebrating a festive night, DBKL stressed that responsibility towards cleanliness should not be neglected.

“Even as the public celebrates festive nights, the responsibility to maintain cleanliness must remain a priority,” the city authority said.

DBKL urged members of the public to make use of rubbish bins provided and to take care of shared public spaces, emphasising that individual actions can have a significant impact.

“A responsible attitude from each individual will have a big effect on maintaining the cleanliness of the city,” the post concluded.
