A tragic incident unfolded in Samarahan, Sarawak, after a blind elderly woman spent days beside her daughter’s decomposing body before finally crawling her way out of the jungle to seek help.
The case took place in a remote jungle area near Kampung Tambey, where a woman in her 30s was believed to have died suddenly about six days ago inside their small hut.
According to Sin Chew Daily, the deceased and her mother lived together in isolation, relying on government aid for their daily needs. Their hut was located far from the main road, making access difficult.
Crawled for 2 days to the roadside
With no one around to assist her, the blind mother stayed beside her daughter’s body for several days. As the body began to decompose and release a strong odour, she decided to look for help.
Relying solely on her sense of touch, she crawled and felt her way through the jungle for nearly two days, eventually reaching the roadside near dawn at around 6am today (Dec 5).
There, she managed to alert passing motorists and told them about her daughter’s death.
Police and rescue teams retrieve the body
After receiving the distress call, police officers and members of the Civil Defence Force (APM) rushed to the scene. They trekked into the jungle to reach the hut, where they found the body already in an advanced state of decomposition.
Rescue personnel carried the remains out of the jungle and brought them to the hospital mortuary.
APM members also transported the elderly mother to the hospital for medical examination and treatment following her days-long ordeal.
