Blind M’sian Man Plans A Thailand Trip With Wife, Believes His Condition Shouldn’t Hold Him Back

He wanted to make it special, in the way he knew how.
When you’re married to someone who sees the world differently, quite literally, you learn to slow down.

To listen more. Smell more. Feel more. That’s what one Malaysian woman discovered while travelling with her visually impaired husband on a train through Thailand.

He can’t see the scenery, but he feels every moment

In a heartwarming TikTok video, Nadia shared a glimpse into their journey, capturing how her husband, who is visually impaired, experiences travel not through sight but through his other senses.

“He loves taking the train,” she said.

“And the way he enjoys it is through the sounds, surrounding scents, the movement of the train, and the wind.”

Instead of relying on visuals, he absorbs his environment through everything else most people overlook. This makes even the simplest moments deeply meaningful.

How one app helps him ‘see’ the world

To navigate the unfamiliar and better understand his surroundings, Nadia’s husband turns to technology.

One of his key tools is an app called Be My Eyes, which connects blind and low-vision users to volunteers who describe visuals in real-time through audio.

Another way he ‘sees’ his surroundings is by using technology,” she explained, adding how the app has become an important part of his travel routine.

This combination of sensory awareness and tech allows him to fully immerse himself in new places. It proves that seeing is not the only way to explore.

He planned the whole trip, she just followed

What’s more remarkable is that despite his condition, he was the one who took charge of their entire trip. From start to finish, it was his curiosity that shaped the journey.

He’s incredibly independent. He explored in his own way. For our Thailand itinerary, he did all the research and planning. I just followed. Thanks for everything, sayang,” she wrote proudly.

While many might assume that having a disability requires more support, Nadia’s story changes that perspective. It shows that independence can look very different and still be just as powerful.

More than anything, Nadia expressed her deep admiration for her husband’s quiet determination and ability to connect with the world in his own way.
