A businessman from Bangladesh was recently stopped by Melaka Road Transport Department (JPJ) officers who were carrying out inspections on Jan 20 in Bukit Rambai, Melaka.
Further checks showed that he had broken several traffic laws, leading to the luxury car being seized by officers.
Drove with expired car licence & insurance
According to Melaka JPJ director Siti Zarina Mohd Yusop, she said the foreigner in his 40s was found to have driven the BMW with an expired motor vehicle licence and insurance coverage.
However, he did possess a valid driver’s licence, reported NST and Sinar Harian.

The vehicle was eventually seized in accordance with Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Siti Zarina said the BMW was one of 85 units acted upon following inspections of 579 vehicles during Ops Luxury.
Common offenses
She added that between Jan 1 last year and Jan 27 this year, a total of 17 luxury vehicles were seized.
BMWs made up the highest number of seizures at 20, followed by Toyota Vellfire (16), BMW (12), and Toyota Alphard (10).

Siti Zarina added that the most common offense, recorded in a total of 76 cases, was expired road tax and lack of insurance coverage.
Other offences included not having a valid driver’s licence by foreigners and an instance of a fake registration number being displayed.
“The frequency of expired motor vehicle licenses and lack of insurance coverage shows that many luxury vehicle owners still ignore legal requirements for registration and protection,” she said.
