After a challenging experience at the Paris Olympics, Malaysia’s renowned track cyclist Datuk Azizulhasni Awang, fondly known as the “Pocket Rocketman,” has quietly returned home to Melbourne, Australia, after nearly four months away from his family.
His surprise homecoming brought a wave of joy and tears to his four daughters, who were unaware of his early return.
Azizul, who documented the heartwarming reunion, shared the emotional moment on his TikTok account, where it quickly gained widespread attention.
Ran towards Azizul for a big hug
In the video, his second daughter is seen running towards him, shouting “Abby! Abby!” before leaping into his arms. Overwhelmed by the surprise, she burst into tears.
Azizul gently asked her, “Why are you crying?” to which she tearfully replied, “I missed you.” With a smile, Azizul responded, “I missed you too.”
The video captures the pure joy and love between the father and his daughters.
Thought he is coming back next month
Even his youngest, a three-year-old, adorably asked Azizul if he was heading to the gym, perhaps reflecting her understanding of the dedication her father has to his training regimen.
His eldest daughter, aged 12, hugged him tightly and expressed her disbelief, saying, “I’m speechless. When my teacher asked when my dad would return, I said next month. But now he’s here.”
The reunion not only showcased the deep bond between Azizul and his family but also offered a glimpse of the softer side of this Olympic hero, who is often seen as a fierce competitor on the track.
Paris will be his final Olympic
Prior to the Olympics, the 36-year-old veteran had boldly declared his aim to win gold in his fifth Olympic appearance.
However, his journey in Paris ended in disappointment when he was disqualified in the first round of the men’s keirin event due to a false start.
Azizul later confirmed that Paris would be his final Olympic performance, having previously won a silver medal in Tokyo three years ago and a bronze in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
Despite the setbacks in Paris, home remains his ultimate refuge. The reunion with his family seems to have brought him the peace and comfort needed to move past the challenges he faced on the Olympic stage.
