At Least 8 Shots Fired At Shah Alam Mall, Suspect Flees by Hijacking Car

Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police.
A shooting incident occurred at Setia City Mall in Setia Alam, Shah Alam, on Saturday night (8 Feb), leaving a male cleaning worker injured.

Investigations revealed that the victim, a cleaning worker at the mall, was storing cleaning equipment on Level P1 when the suspect suddenly fired four shots at the victim’s legs and buttocks.

Despite his injuries, the victim managed to flee into the shopping center to seek help, while the suspect retreated to Level P2.

The suspect then fired several more shots at the glass windows and sliding doors on Level P2.

After the attack, the suspect fled the scene by hijacking a Perodua Ativa at gunpoint.

He forced the driver to leave Shah Alam and later escaped after making him stop along a highway.

Authorities have identified the suspect and are actively searching for him. 

NST reported that the injured cleaner was rushed to Shah Alam Hospital for treatment and is now in stable condition. 

Police are investigating the motive behind the attack and have urged anyone with information to come forward.

The incident has raised concerns about public safety in the area.

Suspect has 11 prior criminal records

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said in a statement the suspect is a local man in his 30s with fair skin and has 11 prior criminal records related to offenses and drugs.

We are in the midst of tracking him down. The motive of the incident is still under investigation,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 3 of the Firearms (Heavier Penalty) Act 1971, which carries the death penalty, and Section 307 of the Penal Code, which carries a prison sentence of up to 20 years if convicted.

Setia City Mall to resume operations today

Following the incident, Setia City Mall also issued a statement.

“We want to assure everyone that the safety and well-being of everyone remain our top priority, and operations have resumed as usual today.

Thank you for your support and cooperation. We are working closely with the authorities, and we have provided approval for operations to resume today.”

GSC Setia City Mall vacated

In response to the incident, Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) announced that the mall had been temporarily closed, and all patrons were asked to vacate the premises.

GSC stated that it would issue refunds for canceled shows and for those whose screenings were interrupted during the incident.

In a separate post, GSC also confirmed that it would operate as usual on Sunday (Feb 9).
