KUALA LUMPUR – Speculations of a potential partnership between Astro and Netflix is rife following Astro’s announcement of an agreement signing with a subscription-based video-on-demand (SVOD) service.
However, Astro remained tight-lipped on the timeline and details when questioned and only said that “more details will be released soon”.
As such, we can only assume that this service will be launched on Astro in a “couple of months”, according to The Edge.
As part of its digital convergence strategy, Astro launched the Disney+ Hotstar streaming platform earlier this month.
Additionally, it has also featured programs from the US’ HBO Go and China’s iQIYI on its platform.
The giant media conglomerate achieved another milestone with the launching of its standalone subscription-based and advertising-supported streaming service Sooka this month as well.
“We believe this will pave the way for Astro to enrich its content offerings and become the master of content aggregator,” said UOB Kay Hian Research’s Chloe Tan in an interview with The Edge.
While we wait in anticipation of further announcements, let us know which is your current favourite streaming service in the comments!
