Reported by Harian Metro, during parliamentary sessions, PAC members receive RM250 per day.

MPs also receive RM300 per day when attending official briefings and a daily subsistence allowance of RM100 for official duties outside Parliament that require travel beyond 32 kilometres.

Travel and overseas duty allowances

MPs are also entitled to travel reimbursements for self-driving, public transport, or air travel, along with accommodation expenses such as hotel stays, lodging, and laundry.

For overseas assignments, MPs receive a meal allowance of RM340 per night and a daily subsistence allowance of RM170 per day.

They can also claim accommodation and transport expenses, including air and land travel, as well as compensation for currency exchange losses and a 25% tip allowance based on their meal allowance.

Total earnings could reach RM30,000 to RM40,000

The statement highlighted that when all allowances and claims are factored in, some MPs may receive an income of RM30,000 to RM40,000 per month.

Anwar urged MPs to manage their finances wisely and to always prioritise the needs of the people, many of whom earn significantly less.

He also criticised certain MPs for complaining about their income being too low, to the point where they claim they have to take on debt to sustain their daily lives.

Anwar also addressed concerns over funding allocations for opposition MPs, reiterating that the government is open to discussions.

He questioned why opposition members continue to publicly complain rather than engaging in negotiations with the government over the matter.
