A Taiwanese national tragically died after falling onto the Light Rail Transit (LRT) tracks at the Pusat Bandar Puchong station on Tuesday (June 3).
Transport Minister Anthony Loke has confirmed that the incident was accidental and that the victim may not have been aware of his surroundings at the time.
CCTV footage under investigation
According to Sin Chew and Malay Mail, the deceased has been identified as Chang Pao Shih, a 63-year-old man from Kaohsiung, Taiwan. His identity was confirmed based on his passport found at the scene.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday (June 3), Loke said that Prasarana, the operator of the LRT, had submitted a report on the incident. Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage of the event has been handed over to the police for further investigation.
The CCTV footage will be passed to the police, and they will carry out a thorough investigation,” he said.
He also stated that since the victim is a foreign national, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been informed to assist in contacting the victim’s family.
The fatal incident occurred along the Sri Petaling Line. Chang was found on the tracks with no signs of life, and authorities later confirmed that he had fallen onto the tracks on his own, ruling out foul play.
Loke orders safety upgrades at stations
In response to the incident, Loke announced that he has instructed Prasarana to accelerate the upgrading of safety infrastructure at all MRT and LRT stations, particularly the installation of platform screen doors.

New MRT stations already come with platform doors, and they’ve also been installed at monorail stations. However, some of the older stations on the Ampang Line do not have them yet,” he said.
Loke acknowledged that retrofitting older stations with platform doors would require a large budget and additional funding. Despite this, he emphasized that enhancing commuter safety is a top priority for the government.
“I’ve directed Prasarana to make the necessary arrangements. They are currently in the planning phase to push this initiative forward,” he added.
