The disturbing series of cat killings at Universiti Malaya (UM) continues into the new year, with the latest incident occurring on January 2, 2025.

Following a string of gruesome incidents, including the last case reported on Christmas Day 2024, yet another tragedy struck yesterday as an orange cat was discovered dead at the Faculty of Medicine.

Cat was found mutilated with organs exposed

According to a statement by the Universiti Malaya Students’ Union (UMSU), the cat was allegedly mutilated, with its internal organs exposed.

The cat’s intestines were missing, and its right hind limb were removed from the body.

UMSU student representative has lodged a police report upon discovering the case.

In response to this alarming situation, the Faculty of Medicine (FOM) has issued a statement assuring the community that they are working closely with local authorities to investigate the matter and ensure safety on campus.

They have also partnered with UM Animal Guardians to set up safe spaces and provide cat cages for stray cats.

Students and staff are urged to report any sightings of cats to help protect them. Additionally, the faculty emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant, avoiding poorly lit areas, moving in groups, carrying safety alarms, and promptly notifying campus security of any suspicious activity.

Relocation of all stray cats in campus

In response to recent incidents involving stray cats on campus, Universiti Malaya Students’ Union (UMSU) has decided to safely relocate all stray cats to ensure their well-being and prevent further issues.
