Expectations can make or break a holiday, and for one American woman, her trip to Malaysia ended up shattering them entirely.
What was supposed to be an exciting Southeast Asian getaway quickly turned sour, prompting her to post a viral TikTok video explaining why she regretted visiting the country and would never return.
In her video, she displayed the text “Yeah, I definitely won’t be back to Malaysia. 0 out of 10, don’t recommend” while recounting her experience travelling through Kuala Lumpur and Penang.

Says Vietnam and Cambodia treated her better
The OP compared her visit here to her previous trips around Southeast Asia and claimed Malaysia’s hospitality was the worst among the three.
She said the hospitality in Cambodia and Vietnam was “far better” than what she experienced in Malaysia.
I have been to Cambodia. Cambodia hospitality is way better than this. I have been to Vietnam. Vietnam hospitality is way better than this. So, zero out of ten. I honestly do not recommend Malaysia.
”Kuala Lumpur, 0 out of 10, the people are rude as f***. Like damn, what Americans do to the Malaysians? Cause they’re not f***ing with a n***a out here,” she added.
Although she had harsh words for Kuala Lumpur, the OPadmitted Penang was still “acceptable.”

“The vibes are a little lighter here, I will give them that. But we got the same treatment.:
However, she also alleged that many Malaysians she encountered were rude and questioned why locals did not treat her well.
Accused e-hailing driver of racism
One of the main incidents that shaped the OP’s negative perception allegedly happened in Penang, where said she and her companion could not get an e-hailing driver even though the car was located nearby.
“We could not get an e-hailing driver to pick us up even though they were only nine minutes away. Then the driver cancelled the booking.
“Did he see us or what? The driver cancelled simply because he saw us. Once he saw we were American and Black, he cancelled the booking. That is crazy.”
She claimed this was not an isolated experience, adding that similar incidents happened multiple times while she was walking around Malaysia.
‘Go somewhere else then’
Despite her criticism, many Malaysian netizens said they were not offended and joked that she was free to visit other countries if she wanted better hospitality.
Several foreigners who had visited Malaysia also stepped into the comments to share that they actually had positive experiences here.
One netizen added that e-hailing cancellations happen in many countries, including Australia, and can often be resolved by making another booking.
Some users pointed out that the tone of her video seemed intentionally negative, as if she wanted to portray Malaysia in the worst possible way. Many also found her attitude unreasonably harsh.
