An incident where an ambulance was trapped in a traffic jam in a smart lane has sparked widespread concern and criticism on social media.
The event occurred on the afternoon of the 3rd of this month, on the North-South Expressway (NSE) heading north, near Senawang.
Smart lane activated to alleviate traffic flow
In a video shared on social media, the scene shows severe congestion in the three main lanes, prompting the activation of the smart lane to alleviate traffic flow.
However, when an ambulance with its siren on entered the smart lane, it found itself unable to move forward due to a large number of vehicles and limited space.

The presence of barriers along both sides of the lane further prevented other drivers from yielding, leaving the ambulance stuck in a precarious situation.
Despite the ambulance driver honking repeatedly and trying to get closer to other vehicles to signal for a way, the physical constraints of the lane meant that other drivers could not make space.
Netizens’ reaction
The video, which depicts the tense moment, has caused many to feel anxious, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
The incident has attracted significant attention online, with many netizens criticizing the lack of adaptability in the smart lane.
“You can’t blame them for going through the emergency lane… because the smart lane light was already green… meaning the smart lane was activated at that time… the ambulance could have chosen the middle lane between lane 2 and lane 3.”

“The one who made the smart lane is dumb… the traffic jam is getting worse, and motorcycles can’t even filter through.”

“Now it’s the government’s fault… because whatever road they add, they make it a smart lane…”
