Having a good relationship with other countries is vital for any nation as it helps to foster the spirit of collaboration for the benefit of both sides.
A recent survey revealed that a large portion of Malaysians hold global superpower China is high regard and are looking forward to many more economic cooperation in the future.
Survey: Almost 80% of M’sians view China in a positive light
According to a survey carried out by Merdeka Centre, it found that 77% of Malaysians have a positive perception of China, which was a huge increase from the 39% in its 2022 report.
The survey also found that respondents have expressed optimism regarding China’s development, with half of them saying that this would reap benefits for Malaysia.

A total of 84% of respondents said they believed Malaysia’s relations with China was on the right track, an increase from 70% two years ago.
On the other hand of the spectrum, only 12% of respondents viewed China negatively, a drop from 19% in 2022.
Open to stronger ties with China
When it came to Chinese investments in the country, 82% of the respondents expressed approval over it, saying that it would benefit Malaysia as a whole and want to see more collaboration in the future.
Merdeka Centre revealed that the top 10 sectors for desired cooperation are digital economy, infrastructure, tourism, manufacturing, electric vehicles, medical product development, agriculture and fisheries, new energy, green economy and environmental engineering, and semiconductor industries.

The survey, which was carried out in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of bilateral ties between Malaysia and China, saw a total of 1,225 individuals taking part, which consisted of 52% Malay, 29% Chinese, 7% Indian, 6% Muslim Bumiputera, and 6% non-Muslim Bumiputera.
