JAKARTA – In the new media era, more people are tapping into social media’s immense power to make a name for themselves, especially among youngsters who tend to be more tech-savvy. They would also compete with their fellow influencers by doing outlandish or shocking antics to gain more followers.
Indonesian TikTok influencer Anggun is well-known for his bizarre mukbang sessions, where he would chow down large amounts of peppers, chillis, and a variety of spicy sauces. He has also produced videos of him taking a more extreme route, such as bones and instant noodle seasoning packets.
Mukbang is an online broadcast where one would film him/herself devouring a heap of food for the audience’ entertainment. While South Korea is widely credited to be the birthplace of mukbang starting in 2010, it has become an online trend worldwide. However, Anggun’s sessions come with a twist: he is paid a certain amount of money or expensive prizes when challenged to embark on another eating spree.
In his most recent video, he was offered 30mil Indonesian Rupiah (approximately RM8,555) to consume four packets of salt.
After accepting the challenge, Anggun opened the packets and poured them onto a plate. Scoop by scoop, he ate it all without batting an eye or having a drink of water. In the end, he was rewarded for completing the challenge. #RIPkidneys, by the way.
In the comment section, some netizens expressed concerned for his health, while others speculated that what he ate wasn’t salt at all.
Aside from the salt, he wolfed down ten tubes of chilli powder as well.
Anggun is no stranger to such feats as he has also been recorded picking clean the head of a cow, chicken and lamb. But these feats are paying off handsomely for him as he gains at least 20M views on these videos.
We advise our readers to follow Anggun’s example at their own risk as it can cause permanent damage to your kidneys, teeth, and digestive system.
