Beginning 1 July 2025, all express and tour bus drivers and passengers must buckle up or risk being fined.
From this coming Tuesday, 1 July, wearing seat belts will be compulsory for all drivers and passengers on express and tour buses.
Those who fail to comply will face a RM300 compound, according to JPJ Director-General Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli.

Previously, we took an advocacy approach, but starting this Tuesday, we will enforce it strictly,” he said.
Drivers & bus operators also liable
According to Kosmo!, explained that if a driver fails to remind passengers about the seat belt enforcement, the driver will also be fined and this includes action against the bus operating company.
Grace period for older buses
Aedy Fadly added that the seat belt requirement applies to buses manufactured after January 2020, while those made before 2020 will be given a grace period to install seat belts.
JPJ is currently holding engagement sessions with industry players to install seat belts, and a directive will be issued soon,” he said.
With this enforcement, JPJ aims to improve passenger safety, especially on long-distance and tour buses across Malaysia.
