Barisan Nasional (BN) has been decreed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong that all 30 MPs of the party must participate in a unity government.
Speaking to Malaysiakini, BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that he, along with two other top leaders of the coalition, had received the order while meeting the Agong at Istana Negara this morning.
When asked about BN whether will be sticking to its decision to remain in the opposition instead of backing any party to form the government, Zahid replied, “That is not Tuanku’s order.”
“Tuanku’s decree is to form a unity government,” he said.
Apart from Zahid, Umno Deputy President Mohamad Hasan and BN Secretary General Zambry Abdul Kadir were also present at the meeting.
Yesterday, His Majesty summoned all 30 BN MPs to Istana Negara in order to determine whether PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin or Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim would be the next Prime Minister.
