An AirAsia plane which was making its way towards Shenzhen, China, had to turn back and make an emergency landing at KLIA2 just minutes past midnight after one of its engines burst into flames.

The Airbus A320, which took off at 9.59pm, successfully made the emergency landing at 12.08am, reported FMT.

No casualties reported

“A total of nine personnel and one fire engine from the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department, as well as one fire engine and three personnel from the Airport Fire and Rescue Service (AFRS), responded to the call.

The engine fire on the Airbus A320-216 was extinguished by the aircraft’s Halon fire suppression system before it landed. We believe the fire was caused by a pneumatic ducting burst,” he said

Despite the mid-air incident, all 171 passengers and crew evacuated the aircraft safely and no injuries or casualties were reported.

AirAsia has yet to release a statement regarding the incident at the time of writing.
