Air Quality In M’sia Worsens Due To Haze, 7 Areas Record API Reading Of Over 150

An API level above 100 is considered unhealthy.
Believe that a lot of Malaysians have started to realise the haze has been hitting Malaysia since last weekend, and it’s getting worse by the day.

Malaysia’s air quality took a sharp dip this morning, with nine locations across the country recording “unhealthy” Air Pollutant Index (API) readings, according to the Department of Environment (DOE).

7 areas recorded API readings above 150

As of 8am, seven areas had API readings above 150, indicating significantly poor air quality. The worst-affected areas include:

Malaysia’s Air Pollutant Index is categorised as follows:

  • 0–50: Good
  • 51–100: Moderate
  • 101–200: Unhealthy
  • 201–300: Very Unhealthy
  • >300: Hazardous

Transboundary haze

DOE Director-General Datuk Wan Abdul Latiff said the current deterioration in air quality is largely caused by transboundary haze from neighbouring countries.

He advised the public to check real-time air quality updates via the DOE’s official website or by downloading the MyJAS EQMS mobile app.

Malaysians are also urged to visit the Ministry of Health’s website (www.moh.gov.my) for up-to-date health advisories on how to stay safe during haze episodes.
