In yet another case involving loan sharks (Ah Longs), a woman in Shah Alam found herself being threatened and harassed over a loan that was taken out by her domestic helper.
Even though the maid had already paid back the debt, the loan shark didn’t relent and even deployed a group of delivery riders to demand payment from the woman.
Ah Long sends 20 riders to harass M’sian woman over debt
According to the 35-year-old woman named Chin, she said she received an anonymous phone call on Feb 12, where the caller asked for RM4,580 to be paid back. The caller also threatened to send delivery riders to Chin’s home to collect the money.

She later found out that her maid had borrowed RM1,250 from a loan shark but has since repaid it, including the interest.
“I initially thought that the caller was trying to intimidate me to get more money, but around 20 delivery riders turned up at my house between 5pm and 11pm that day, telling me they had come to collect the money,” she said during a press conference organised by Gerakan.
Personal info leaked, family’s safety threatened
Not long after Chin lodged a police report, she was sent photos of her family, house address, and the number plates of her cars. The photos were also shared on a Facebook group for residents in Shah Alam.

Later that night, she got a phone call informing her that loan sharks will stalk her at her workplace and harass her two kids at school.
Selangor Gerakan chief Henry Teoh, who was also present, said there have been three similar cases which involved domestic helpers borrowing money from loan sharks in the same area.

We believe there is a syndicate approaching the domestic helpers who happen to go to the same church, and persuading them to borrow money to play games online.
“We will also be following up on the matter with the authorities,” he added.
