A Malaysian fresh graduate recently shared on Threads that their first job pays only RM2.5k but comes with a job description that feels like handling five people’s workloads.
The boss calls it “multitasking”, but according to the fresh grad, it is really just another word for being underpaid.
The post instantly went viral as many Malaysians who had been in the same situation came forward to share their experiences.

Netizens share their struggles
One commenter said:
“And then they add must be able to work under pressure and tight deadlines. Their brain ah.”

Another wrote about being placed in a job that did not even match their qualification:
“I know you have a degree but there is no executive position right now. But your job suits your degree anyway- Admin job .”

Many also shared how they eventually left such jobs:
“Been there and I hate it. That’s why I switched fields because my previous job was terrible.”

Others pointed out that this is only the beginning and things might not necessarily get better as one climbs the corporate ladder:
“When you climb higher, the multitasking gets worse. Same tasks, but maybe multiple bosses from different companies. Then you will know the fresh grad job was easy hahahaha.”

Judging by the comments, it seems that overworked and underpaid fresh grads are not a rare phenomenon in Malaysia.
Many netizens resonated with the feeling of being expected to handle multiple roles while receiving a salary that barely covers living expenses.
