Yesterday (Jan 11), Prime Minister of Malaysia Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced Movement Control Order (MCO) to be reintroduced in five states and three federals starting 13 January 2021. It is an announcement that concerns all Malaysians and the topic has been heavily discussed by the Malaysian netizens before the announcement was made.
There were lots of ongoing predictions and opinions on the internet before the final announcement was made. Some think that MCO 2.0 is inevitable due to the alarming numbers of new cases recorded in Malaysia every day; while others think that it would bring more harm than good, as the economy of the country would be at stake for another movement control order.
Given everyone on the internet has their fair share of right to express their prediction and opinion, it was bound to happen that some netizens would come out with some over the top statement……
“If MCO2.0 were reintroduced, I would give everyone here RM300. A promise is a promise. Will pay the money on Monday!!!”
Fellow netizen “Heng See”, presumably being too confident about his prediction, has promised to hand out cash to everyone if his prediction about MCO 2.0 were wrong.
Before the announcement, the post seems to receive limited attention but apparently, some netizens have already kept in mind his silly promise……
Shortly after the MCO 2.0 was announced, the netizens swarmed the post with comments to demand the money he promised. After receiving a huge wave of engagement, the post quickly went viral and spread outside of the group where he posted the promise, generating an even larger wave of comments asking for his money.
Some kind netizens helped to calculate the rough total number he needs to pay…
While others offer him to pay by instalment…
Amidst all the kind comments patiently waiting and showing gratitude towards the generosity of “Heng See”, there were also disbelievers that do not think he is actually paying.
Despite mass netizens demanding eagerly for their promised money, “Heng See” was nowhere to be found and has made no response at first. Just when everyone has started to lose hope, the legend and the myth himself has resurfaced, sharing a new post to reassure the netizen in doubt that his promise would not be broken.
“Please calm down, fellow group members, give me some time and I will pay you the money, please wait patiently.”
The post has become even more viral than the original post, with more netizens gathered around, as if it was a virtual festive celebration.
This time, someone even claimed to have received the money!
And others rejoice in joy, and gave him the title of “the God of Wealth”.
However, disbeliever remains disbelieve…
Will “Heng See” fulfil his promise or disappoint the netizens? Will he be the legend or the myth? The story shall continue on Facebook 槟城吹水站 group……
Even though most of the netizen knows that the whole thing is just a joke which was not meant to be taken seriously, Malaysian netizens still chose to show the humorous side of their nature and go along with it, creating thousands of threads of comments demanding the money as if that guy is really going to fulfil his promise. It is a healthy sign to see that everyone could get together and have fun on the Internet!
