A 92-year-old man in Sau Mau Ping, Hong Kong, has died after he was suspected to have choked while eating on the second day of Chinese New Year.
Police received a report at about 9.01am on 18 Feb saying that a 92-year-old man, surnamed Song, had allegedly choked while eating and collapsed inside a unit in Kwun Tong District, Kowloon.
He was found unconscious and taken to hospital for treatment, but was later confirmed dead.
Wife said to have been feeding him tangyuan
According to a local report, the man lived with his wife at the same address.
He reportedly had high blood pressure and an eye condition, and had been bedridden for a long period, with his wife caring for him.
On the morning of the incident, his wife was said to be feeding him tangyuan when he suddenly appeared to choke and became unconscious.

She alerted their daughter, called the police, and administered first aid, but he later died despite being sent to hospital.
Police said initial investigations found no suspicious circumstances.
The case has been classified as “dead before arrival” and has been handed to the Sau Mau Ping district miscellaneous investigation team for follow-up.
