Think running is only for the young? One Malaysian uncle just showed otherwise.
Meet Ong Kim Hwa, a 91-year-old runner from Seremban who recently joined the Petaling Jaya Half Marathon 2025.
Taking part in the Men’s Senior Veteran 10km category, Ong managed to cross the finish line in 1 hour and 46 minutes — a pace many younger runners would envy.
Not last place
Far from being a straggler, Ong finished 118th out of 127 runners in his category, and placed 1296th overall among 1,422 participants.
So yes, he beat quite a number of younger folks.
A back-to-back achievement
What’s even more remarkable is that this wasn’t his only race in August.
Just a week earlier, Ong completed the IJM Land Half Marathon, where he covered 12km in just over 2 hours.
Two weekends. Two long-distance races. At age 91.
Photos and clips of Ong have gone viral on social media, with netizens calling him a true “legend” and praising him as living proof that age doesn’t have to be a barrier.
