Why he chose to give instead of accepting help
Recently, a heartwarming story went viral on social media after a video of an elderly man’s selfless response was shared.
The video, posted on TikTok by influencer @cahayaicha__, shows Icha, a popular social media personality, approaching the elderly man.
She first asked about his marital status before offering to buy him some groceries. What stood out was the man’s gracious refusal.
The 80-year-old man politely declined her offer, saying, “It’s okay, I cook with a wooden stove, thank you.”
But what truly touched hearts was his next gesture. Instead of accepting the help for himself, the elderly man requested that Icha direct her generosity to others who may need it more.
Giving to those in greater need
I’m 80 years old and live alone. I help others. I don’t need much. Anwar (the Prime Minister) has given me welfare assistance of RM600 a month. I’m fine,” he explained, expressing his satisfaction with his current situation.
However, Icha, determined to help, persisted. The elderly man, not wanting to disappoint her, finally agreed to accept a token amount, RM50, saying:
This amount is enough to cover my meals for a week. The rest, you can give to others who need it more.”
The story doesn’t end there. At the end of the video, the elderly man returned to Icha after reflecting on her kindness, remembering her generosity in giving him the RM50.
The video has garnered million views and has struck a chord with many social media users. The comments section was filled with praise for the elderly man’s humble and grateful nature, with many impressed by his refusal to take advantage of the help offered.
Instead of focusing on his own needs, he asked for assistance to be directed to others who might be more in need, a rare and touching act of selflessness.
