There’s an old saying that goes ‘Age is just a number’. And for 77-year-old Zulkifly Abdullah, this definitely rings very true for him.
This comes after he was conferred his Bachelor of Laws degree from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) at an age that most would consider impossible to complete one’s studies, let alone graduate.

According to NST, Zulkifly, who’s a retired Human Resources officer, also holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in History from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in addition to his law degree.
Speaking to the English daily, the septuagenarian said he took up an interest in law thanks to his previous job in a ministry that dealt with legal regulations.
“When I was working, my focus was on my job, and I didn’t consider continuing my education at that time.
“After retiring, I decided to go back to school and enrolled at UKM from 2007 to 2011 at age 60. Then in 2018, I began studying law part-time at UiTM,” he said, adding that he completed his studies last December.
‘Don’t let age be a barrier’
Although Zulkifly admitted that he faced challenges pursuing a law degree in his 70s, he said he was supported by his lecturers and classmates, who helped him complete his studies.
“My family has been very supportive. My son, Mohd Azlan, is a lawyer, and we often discuss legal matters. I also consult him when I need clarification on certain topics,” he added.
The father of five also encouraged others not to let age dictate what they can accomplish in their educational journey.
“Education is a lifelong journey. Law requires consistent reading and effort. If you have the opportunity, continue learning regardless of your age.”
