75yo Aunty Gets Cursed & Spat At, Then Punched By Man For Simply Asking Him To Give Way To Her In S’pore

"I’ve always thought Singaporeans were kind and friendly."
An elderly woman became a victim of assault after she asked a man not to block her path at food court in Singapore.

Following the incident, police are now investigating the matter after receiving a report.

Asked man to give way to her

Speaking to Shin Min Daily News, the woman surnamed Yang (transliteration) said the assault happened at the Mayflower Market & Food Centre in Ang Mo Kio at around 9am on Saturday (Oct 11).

She said she went to the food court to buy herself coffee after buying groceries and left her trolley beside a table in front of a fishball stall.

“After getting my coffee, I went to retrieve my trolley. A woman was seated at the table with a baby stroller next to her and a tattooed man standing nearby.

I politely asked him to let me pass, but he got angry and scolded me, saying, ‘Are you blind? Can’t you walk around?’”

Tensions rose further when the man let out a stream of Hokkien vulgarities and allegedly spat at Yang twice.

When Yang told the man to apologise for his behaviour, he reportedly kicked and shoved her while cursing away.

“I raised my hand to block him, and I accidentally spilled my coffee on him in the process. That’s when he punched me on the left side of my face, and I fell to the ground.”

Yang, who has a heart condition, said she was so frightened by the assault that her blood pressure spiked, which caused her to tremble and turn pale.

“I initially wanted to go home by myself, but many noticed I didn’t look well and called my daughter to come pick me up.

“Police later arrived to take statements and called an ambulance to send me to the hospital, where I underwent an X-ray scan,” she said, adding that doctors prescribed her painkillers and said they needed to check for fractures.

For now, the swelling on Yang’s face has largely subsided although some bruises still remain.

‘I thought S’poreans were friendly & kind’

Yang, who is a Taiwanese national, said she travels frequently between Taiwan and Singapore to visit her grandson.

She also added the incident has shattered her positive impression of Singapore.

I’ve always thought Singaporeans were kind and friendly. I never expected something like this to happen. I just hope the man apologises and pays for my medical expenses.

“At first, I thought I’d just let it go since the man was young, but others insisted I report it to the police and someone helped me to do so.”
