Gombak police chief Assistant Commissioner Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir told the English daily that the accident took place at 3.10pm last Saturday (Feb 22) when ‘Opah’ was riding a Yamaha 135LC motorcycle along Batu 10, Jalan Gombak Lama
“While she was on the road shoulder directing cars to clear the road for a marathon, a lorry driven by a 32-year-old man crashed into her, leading to severe injuries. The victim was later pronounced dead by a medical officer from Selayang Hospital.
“As for the lorry driver, he escaped unhurt and the case is now being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving,” he said.

Passing mourned by residents
As soon as news of ‘Opah’s passing spread, many have come forward to share stories of her friendly and motherly nature as well as express deep grief over her demise.
China Press reported that a netizen known as Wan Luqman shared on Facebook that ‘Opah’ used to direct traffic in front of his son’s school before being assigned to another location.
The last time I saw her was outside a mosque, where I greeted her with a smile as I went inside for prayers.
“After prayers, I wanted to buy coconut water to share with her due to the hot weather. However, I had to attend to something else and never got the chance to do so.

“Upon hearing news of Opah’s passing, my heart is filled with nothing but deep sorrow and regret,” he wrote in the post.
Our condolences to Opah’s family for their loss and we hope they will be able to move on from this tragedy.
