As the oft-heard phrase goes, โIf itโs too good to be true, it probably isโ, the same goes to investment schemes that promise unsuspecting individuals lucrative profits with minimal effort.
An elderly woman unfortunately had to learn this lesson the painful way in the form of her losing millions of Ringgit after she was duped into pouring hard-earning savings into a fake gold investment scheme.
72yo Mโsian woman loses RM2.6mil of late husbandโs and her savings
In a statement by Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman, he said the 72-year-old woman from Termeloh became friends with a person on Facebook, who then introduced her to a gold investment scheme on Feb 20.

Following that, she was given a link by the suspect and invited to join a WhatsApp group named โKelas Pertengahan Elit Malaysia 3โ. Upon her โrecruitmentโ, she found herself attending several short training sessions to manage her investment.
She was provided with three investment applications. The suspect made 60 transactions amounting to RM2.6 million into two bank accounts between April 18 and December 9 last year.
โThe victim realised she had been duped after failing to gain access to the applications and did not receive any profit,โ said Yahaya as quoted by NST.

This proved to be a huge heartbreak for the woman, who had drained both her and late husbandโs savings, sold her house and even borrowed money from her children who were living overseas.
It was also revealed that she sold the house after she was made to believe that she needed to make additional payments in order to earn her profit.
Yahaya urged the public to always verify bank accounts and phone numbers via https://semakmule.rmp.gov.my before proceeding with any transactions.
