An elderly man lost his life while he was in the midst of crossing the road in Bayan Lepas, Penang yesterday (Apr 1).
According to NST and The Star, the accident occurred at about 2.55pm along Jalan Tun Dr Awang, near the Bayan Lepas roundabout.
Footage of the accident has also made its rounds on the Internet, where it showed the victim crossing a zebra crossing halfway before getting hit by an oncoming car.
The impact of the crash sent the victim flying into the air before landing on the road, while the car’s front bumper and windscreen were severely damaged.

Succumbed to injuries
Northeast district deputy police chief Superintendent Lee Swee Sake said in a statement that the car was driven by a 19-year-old who was travelling from Bayan Lepas towards George Town.
He said the 71-year-old victim suffered severe injuries and was rushed to the Penang Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at about 12.05am today.
As for the 19-year-old driver, he was unharmed.

Police are probing the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving and it has been classified as sudden death (SDR).
