A 6-year-old girl in Terengganu was tragically killed after she was knocked down by an SUV on Jalan Perumahan Batu Hampar, Manir yesterday (Feb 28).
Sinar Harian reported that the victim, Nur Adelia Qistina Mohd Shukri, was riding her bicycle to a friend’s house prior to the accident.
Couldn’t avoid bicycle
According to Kuala Terengganu district police chief Azli Noor, he said a 43-year-old woman was driving the SUV from her home to a Ramadan bazaar.
“Initial investigations found that as the SUV driver was moving straight ahead, the victim suddenly emerged from a junction on the right.

“Due to the close distance, the driver was unable to avoid the bicycle and hit its front left side,” he said.
SUV driver had no licence
Following the accident, the victim was rushed to the Manir Health Clinic for treatment but later died due to severe head injuries.
Her body was later taken to Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah for further action.

Police checks found that the SUV driver did not have a valid driver’s licence and that the vehicle belonged to her husband.
No bad weather or poor road conditions were reported at the time of the accident and police are now investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
Our condolences to the victim’s family for their loss.
