A flight bound for Nadi, Fiji, turned chaotic when a 69-year-old woman caused a scene mid-air, forcing cabin crew to restrain her and tape her mouth shut after she yelled racial slurs and vulgarities.
In a video, the woman accused the flight attendant of “abusing” her and called the situation “criminal.”
When the attendant sat next to her to calm her down, the woman responded with insults and an offensive remark.
In another viral Facebook video, the woman is seen at the back of the plane as two flight attendants struggle to manage her disruptive behaviour.
According to news.com.au, passenger who recorded the incident said the crew had no choice but to restrain the woman and tape her mouth shut because of her disruptive behaviour.
They added that her comments were offensive and inappropriate.
The woman was heard yelling and resisting as the crew tried to use duct tape to restrain her. She reportedly shouted at both the cabin crew and other passengers.
The incident started about halfway through the 11-hour flight when the woman began raising her voice.
According to the witness, her husband asked to be moved when she became louder, and things got worse when the crew refused to tell her where he had been relocated, leading to an argument.
After being restrained during the flight due to disruptive behavior, the woman was arrested upon landing in Nadi on January 20, 2025.
She was charged with one count of being an unruly passenger under the Fiji Civil Aviation Act.
The Nadi Magistrates Court fined her FJ$500 (approximately RM1150). After paying the fine, the stop departure order was lifted, and the case was discharged.
