A local man in his late 60s was killed in a tragic accident which saw his car being skewered by a metal pole in Penang this morning.
According to Sin Chew Daily, the incident occurred at 9.30am along Jalan Thean Tek in Farlim.
Car impaled by metal pole
Based on checks conducted at the scene of the accident, it was understood that Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) was carrying out cable works at the time.

Out of the three lanes along that stretch of road, two were cordoned off with barriers and a deep hole had been dug, along with a large metal pole being at the site.
Reporters were told that when the victim, Lim Soon Teik, was driving his Toyota Vios through the area, he was attempting to make a right turn at the traffic light when he crashed into the cordoned section.
As a result, the car’s right-side tyre became stuck in the pit, causing the metal pole to pierce through the car from its undercarriage and steering wheel before it exited through the roof.

Lim was struck in the face and head by the metal pole following the accident.
Although members of the public quickly opened the car door in an attempt to rescue Lim and called for an ambulance, he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
Our condolences to the victim’s family for their loss.
