Ever since being elected as prime minister in 2022 following the 15th General Election (GE), Anwar Ibrahim has seen certain communities being unwavering in their support, while others have expressed disappointment.
A leader from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) has recently come forth with a bold statement regarding the level of support for Anwar’s leadership, where he claimed 65.3% of Malaysian civil servants wants the Madani government to govern until GE16 in 2027.
65.3% of M’sian civil servants want Anwar to remain as PM
According to PKR’s Department of Religious Understanding and Strengthening director Amidi Abdul Manan, he said 62.5% of civil servants were satisfied with the efforts made by the Madani Government.

He added the numbers were based on a study by IDE Research regarding the support and perception of civil servants towards the government, which was carried out in March of this year.
He also reiterated the study had no ties to any contest for positions in any particular organisation.
It clearly shows a positive image of the current government led by Anwar. I believe this reflects the true sentiment of the civil service.
“I believe that this confidence and trust will continue to grow over time. Painting a negative picture is a form of sabotage against the efforts to reform the country,” he said as quoted by Sinar Harian.

Support boosted by salary increment
Amidi added that another factor which shored up support for Anwar was the salary increments, which was increased by 15% in Apr 2024, the highest pay hike in history.
As such, 62.5% of civil servants have expressed satisfaction with their salary alignment.
“Although several former prime ministers had promised salary increases, it was Anwar who succeeded in realising it. I believe the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA), which is still undergoing improvement, will become more widely accepted in the future.

“Their confidence in the Madani Government’s ability to maintain political stability is also reflected by 62.3% of respondents who agree that current political stability truly exists to ensure the smooth implementation of administrative reforms,” he said.
