64yo M’sian Woman Loses RM250K Of Late Husband’s Money To Fake Police Inspector

Ouch.
Tricked into thinking that she had broken several laws, an elderly woman was cheated of close to RM250,000 in savings which belonged to her deceased husband.

This was the unfortunate incident which took place back in July in Muar, Johor, reported Berita Harian.

In a statement by Muar district police chief Assistant Commissioner Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz, he said the woman got a call on July 20 by a person claiming to be a representative of the Digital Communications Department of Putrajaya.

He then informed her that her phone number had been used to carry out various illegal activities.

“The call was then transferred to an individual who introduced himself as an ‘Inspector’, and the victim was told to provide her banking and personal details to said ‘Inspector’.

“She complied as she was afraid the money in her bank would be seized by the authorities,” he said.

Raiz Mukhliz added the victim later followed instructions given by the ‘Inspector’ and transferred all her savings into five different bank accounts.

During this period, she made a total of 47 transactions amounting to RM249,700.

“On July 25, the victim was once again asked to deposit RM10,000 for case resolution purposes. But she became suspicious and ignored the man’s request upon realising she had been scammed.

“She later lodged a report at the Muar District Police Headquarters (IPD) for further action and the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating,” he said.
