According to China Press, the incident took place in front of Permatang Rawa Secondary School in Bukit Mertajam yesterday (Mar 10).
Speaking to reporters at the family’s home in Kampung Chin, the victim’s husband Yang Jinshan (transliteration) said his wife had left home at 1pm to clean an office in Perda.

He added that she reminded him to have lunch as there was food at home before she left for work.
“At 2pm, someone came to inform me about the accident, and I immediately contacted our children to understand the situation,” he said.
A doctor later revealed that the victim had a heart blockage which caused her to pass out and fall into the drain.

However, Yang said his wife had never complained of heart pain or discomfort and had not taken any medication in the past.
“She was in good health and hardworking, usually going out twice a week for cleaning jobs. She was also an active volunteer at a Buddhist temple,” he added.
As soon as news of their mother’s passing reached their ears, Yang’s children quickly rushed home, with the daughter returning from China as she had gone there for a work trip.
An assistant to Berapit state assemblyperson Heng Lee Lee was also at the wake, where he consoled the family and offer assistance.

The deceased’s funeral is scheduled to take place this Friday (Mar 14) at 10am at the Berapit Crematorium.
