Using an AED in times like these
Knowing how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is vital in assisting someone suffering a cardiac arrest.
To use an AED properly, follow the following steps:
- Turn it on and follow the instructions
- Remove all clothing from the chest area (including items containing metal)
- Correctly place the AED pads on bare chest
- Let the AED analyse heart rhythm and listen to its instructions
- If the AED prompts to give shock, stay clear of the patient
- After the AED delivers the shock, continue CPR with compressions until the person responds, breathes normally, or paramedics arrive

However, do note that sometimes the AED will deliver shocks more than once if necessary, so always pay close attention to the instructions given.
