A tragic accident unfolded in Kuala Lumpur when a motorcyclist crashed into a car door that was opened out of the blue, causing the pillion rider to fall and get fatally run over by an oncoming lorry.
According to Kwong Wah, the incident occurred around 12:20pm on yesterday (June 16) near the traffic light intersection at Jalan Ipoh.
The motorcycle, ridden by a 20-year-old son and his 55-year-old mom, was moving along the leftmost lane when a Toyota Vios driver, parked on the roadside, allegedly opened the driver’s side door without checking for incoming traffic.
Unable to avoid the door in time, the motorcyclist slammed right into it. The impact caused both riders to fall, but tragically, the woman landed in the middle of the road and was run over by a lorry that couldn’t brake in time.
Victim pronounced dead at the scene
The woman was later pronounced dead on the spot due to severe head injuries and her body was later taken to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for a post-mortem. The motorcyclist sustained light injuries.
Both the car driver and the lorry driver are assisting police in the investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
